Having been in the trades for 30+ years there are certain projects one enjoys doing more than others, such as detail work on finish trim. I also always enjoy siding too because it is a bit like mowing a lawn (focused repetitive tasks where there’s a big difference in a short period of time).
I started working part-time for a local 5-star Velux installer in 2000. Now doing skylights full-time, I have come to enjoy one particular type of installation. It’s putting in a new in-reach venting (opening) unit. If you have an upstairs room where the walls are sloped similar to the roof and are in reach, I would consider this option.
The quip I have to describe the benefit is, “You get a window and a skylight.” The value added is huge for a project that takes little over a day. In most cases, we are able to leave our customers with a finished, ready-to-enjoy skylight. It dramatically changes the experience in any room where we installed it. It’s a winner.
